What does the course aim to do?

To provide an insight into British social life and social issues.

To provide a theoretical and empirical background with which to examine British social life.

What will I be studying?

Paper 1 – 2 hour exam

Am I suited to this subject?

You will need to have:

  • A general interest in current affairs and social issues.
  • Confidence with written language.
  • An analytical mind able to organise and interpret information.
  • Self-discipline and personal motivation to read and study independently.

Where will it lead in the future?

This is a popular A Level and degree subject. It has many specifically vocational applications including: the Public Services and Administration, the Caring Professions, Medicine, Law and Education. Sociology is an A Level which leaves future options very open.
