What does the course aim to do?
Lively, relevant, controversial. there are many ways to describe A-level Politics. There's no denying that it's one of the most interesting and engaging qualifications you can choose.
Covering news and current affairs from the UK and US, it helps you understand how the UK country is run and develops research, written communication and debate skills. It also helps grow your confidence.
What will I be studying?
You will study AQA A-Level Politics and will cover 3 main topics:
Unit 1 - Government and politics of the UK
Unit 2 - The government and politics of the USA and comparative politics
Unit 3 - Political ideas
How will I be assessed?
Unit 1 Examination: 2 hours
Tests understanding of the structure of the UK government and political system and parties
3 questions (1 compulsory)

Unit 2 Examination: 2 hours
Tests understanding of the government and politics of the USA and ability to compare the USA and UK
3 questions (1 compulsory)

Am I suited to this subject?
You should have an interest in politics and current events. It is an essay-based subject but you will also be someone who enjoys discussion and debate.
Where will it lead in the future?
It's ideal if you're considering studying politics, sociology, ethics, advertising or journalism at university and is highly regarded by employers in industries including politics, international organisations, the media, government and the civil service.
How will I study?
The course is taught through: class lectures, papers presented by students on selected topics, seminars, private study/reading, essay writing - an exam question is normally set about every 2-3 weeks.
What will I need to do myself?
Keeping up with the news and current events will form a core of the work you undertake, as well as making private notes taken from varied sources.
