SLADIAN

“Once a Sladian, Always a Sladian”

At Canon Slade School our character education is built around our Sladian Values:  Success, Love, Aspiration, Dedication, Integrity, Authenticity and Nurture.

We embed our Sladian values and promote character development through all aspects of our school life, so that students are spiritually aware, morally aware, socially aware and culturally aware. Our SLADIAN values are planned so that they are central to everything that we do and will be found in all of the following areas:

  • Our taught personal development curriculum, PSHE (including RSE) which is an ambitious curriculum that pupils have timetabled once a week. This prepares them for life beyond school.
  • Our extra curricular programme gives pupils opportunities beyond the standard timetabled curriculum and is exceptionally broad including trips, visits and DofE. Activities are rich and wide representing many subjects.
  • We are a Gatsby Gold school where our careers programme empowers our pupils. We have a Careers officer Mrs Wall who can support and give advice. Our world of work week for key stage three, careers carousel, careers convention and work experience are just a few of the many activities that pupils benefit from. All students benefit from a careers curriculum delivered once a week during from time.
  • Our well being programme highlights the importance of supporting wellbeing and is embedded across the curriculum, pastoral support, enrichment and wider community. Our pupils can access support through our website, Kooth, school counsellor and pastoral team. We embrace mental health awareness week, we have be kind to our mind champions and our very own therapy dog Hugo!
  • Our behaviour system Steps to Success and our Sladian culture that promotes respect for one another and a positive learning environment.
  • Promotion of Sladian Values through assemblies, form time, and other focus weeks that are fundamental to driving our socially responsible citizens.
  • A culture of success is consistently celebrated through our Inspire Awards, Headteacher newsletter, rewards system and assemblies.
  • Our leadership programme ranges from subject ambassadors, prefects and a sixth form leadership team. All year groups can access committees and we promote a “You said-we did” approach. Pupils model the Sladian Way.
  • As a Christian school we aim to develop the spiritual potential of all our pupils. Our sladian values are supported by scripture and our Bishop Fraser Trust vision of “life in all its fullness” permeates our school community on a daily basis. All pupils will come together for communion, services, assemblies and form time worship.
