School Chaplaincy

The role of the school chaplaincy is to support and develop the Christian ethos of the school. This is principally achieved by encouraging students, staff, parents and alumni to understand more of God’s call on their lives through Jesus Christ – both as individuals, and as the wider school community.

The chaplaincy team work alongside the Senior Leadership Team, Heads of Year, Form Tutors and Pastoral staff to provide a variety of spiritual input and opportunities for staff and students – where they can explore, express and develop their understanding and practice of the Christian faith. Liaison with the Religious Studies Department includes input into courses, where relevant, and supporting student trips to Bolton Parish Church.

The chaplaincy works with other departments across the school to plan special services for significant occasions, such as Remembrance, Christmas, Easter and Founder’s Day. Helping to run Chapel services, Form Worship and the special services allows students and staff to develop their Christian leadership, and to use their particular gifts to serve the school community. Sixth-Formers may have the opportunity to assist by running Christian Union groups for younger students, alongside our Chaplaincy Assistant, Zoe Eddleston, by playing in the Chapel music group, or by serving on the Charity Committee.

The chaplaincy provides spiritual support to students, staff and the wider school family including parents and carers. The chaplaincy is a designated safe place within school where pupils can drop in before school and at breaks and lunchtimes.

The school chaplain or chaplaincy assistant can see students or staff who are going through a difficult time and who need spiritual support.

The chaplaincy actively prays for the school and arranges Prayer Evenings where parents, staff, and people from local churches who work with our young people, can come together in prayer for the school community. The school chaplain co-ordinates contributions to the spiritual life of the school from local churches and Christian organisations - especially working alongside the Church of England Bolton Deanery and the local church leaders network.
