Carnegie Book Award

Last year we were unable to take part in the annual Carnegie Book Medal but this year a group of eleven year 8 students participated in shadowing the prestigious national book award.

The CILIP Carnegie Medal is the oldest and best loved children’s book award and is awarded by children’s librarians for an outstanding book written in English for children and young people.

The students met weekly following the shortlist announcement in March to discuss the books, watch author videos and complete fun book linked activities. All the students voted for their favourite book for the Shadowers’ Choice Award. In June, they watched the live stream ceremony at our Carnegie Award party and were thrilled that ‘Run Rebel’ by Manjeet Mann was selected as the Shadowers’ Choice winner. The book ‘Look Both Ways’ by Jason Reynolds is the winner of the CILIP Carnegie medal 2021.
