Canon Slade School was thrilled to be the host for the Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell on Wednesday 16th November.
The event was organised by Bolton Schools Libraries Service and the Booktrust. Other secondary and primary schools came to the event to listen to Chris share his stories about how he became an illustrator and a writer of children’s fiction. He enthralled the year 7 and year 6 students with his beautiful artwork and answered their questions often through illustrations.
The students commented that they enjoyed have their book signed and there was an opportunity to talk to the author and ask questions. Charlotte “I enjoyed getting my new book signed for me and my sister and seeing him draw.”
He spoke passionately about the value of reading, books and librarians. Chris is the only person to have won the Kate Greenaway award three times! The award is for highly recommended illustrations in children’s books.
Chris is a true supporter of both school and public libraries and it was fabulous to welcome him into our library.
Year 7 students were asked about why they think it is a good idea to have author visits in school.
“I think it inspires people to become authors and illustrators.”
“I think it is fun and you will know the life of the author and get interested in reading their book.”
Gloria “I think it is good that we have author visits because it’s great to get a new book and it also gives your lots of inspiration to be an author yourself.”
