Canon Slade will be hosting a round of the Big Book Quiz in the school hall on Thursday 22nd March, 6.30pm-7.30pm. Fourteen teams, consisting of four or five year 7 and 8 students, will be competing in the competition. The schools involved will include our own two teams from Canon Slade, plus teams from Rivington and Blackrod High School, St. James, St. Joseph’s, Sharples and Harrop Fold, Worlsey.

All the students have been busy reading four books and preparing to answer questions for the competition. Our special guest will be Gerry Sammon, author of Wolf Boy, who will have a few words of encouragement for the teams and also be one of the markers. During the evening there will be a music solo and drama presentation by Year 12 and also a short story read by a Year 11 student. We are looking forward to an exciting event.

Ever since Connor Meredith's dad had died in mysterious circumstances, Connor had been able to see things. Strange things. Connor and his mum had been forced to move house and school. The shock of his father's unexplained death, while on a mission with the Army Reserves, led to Connor having psychological therapy once a month. And no wonder ... Because Connor had been struck blind by the shock, yet somehow he could still see - with his mind. Connor had experienced a series of waking nightmares in his room. Creatures battled under his bed at night, and the yellow glowing eyes of a wolf glared at him from his wardrobe doors. One night Connor decided to investigate the wolf in the wardrobe, taking him on a fantastic adventure to a world dominated by wolf people, in constant battle with hideous forest creatures led by a cruel human.
