Food Prep. reaching new heights!
It’s bread week at Canon Slade for year 10 Food Prep students. Everyone was challenged to make 6 equally sized barm cake shaped bread rolls. Emily Johnson made some white bread rolls and some coloured with squid ink. It’s a first in school-I have only had squid ink bread in very posh restaurants! As you can see from the picture the results looked great. At GCSE these would be a delicious accompaniment to a dish like a homemade soup. Last week the year 10s made leek and potato soup and the week before it was minestrone.
#Another new bread by year 10! This time a spelt bread, made by Lucy Shackleton.
Spelt is an ancient grain that’s similar to wheat in appearance but has a tougher husk, which helps protect the nutrients inside the grain. It is the first time that we have used it in bread making and the results were delicious.
