After an exciting lunchtime final, the votes were cast by an experienced team of judges.

It was a draw between Katie Lowe (9H) with a Spanish scone flavoured with manchego cheese, chorizo and paprika, and Maks Lewandowski (9S) with a summer fruits, chocolate and almond scone. The judges were asked to taste the two scones again and a winner was decided upon-it was Maks who just edged in front and was declared the 2019 winner with Katie as runner up.

The standard was exceptionally high with several scones with very good scores. The atmosphere was calm and focused.

Congratulations to the following students who were the top scone makers from year 9 this year-

Gloria Aghedo, Gabby Altdorf, Sophie Brown, Hayley Hadfield, Emma John, Madeleine Morgan, Caitlin Palmer, Tess Pendleton, Bea Simm, Georgia Spencer, Caleb Sumsion, Matthew Tyrrell, Elizabeth Wallace.

Thanks to the judges-Mr Roberts, Mr Spicer, Mrs Foster, with representatives from Greenhalghs’, Bolton college, Runshaw college and Mrs Armston who donated the memorial trophy in memory of her son who loved cooking.

Mrs Teasdale
