Well done to everyone involved in the 5-0 ESFA Inter County trophy win over Staffordshire on Friday 26th November. The freezing temperatures did not seem to hamper our play and we zipped the ball about beautifully at times in what was a pleasing performance. The signs are very encouraging considering that it was only our second game together as a squad.
Most importantly the game was played with good spirit by both sides. Staffordshire faced a long and arduous journey in Friday evening traffic to get up to Manchester but they were terrific sports and we wish them well for the rest of their season.
Remarkably this is the first time a GMCSFA U14 boys side has qualified for the second round of the national cup competition. We now face our neighbours Lancashire in round 2, in a home match that will be played on or before Saturday 14th January. Lancashire beat Cleveland 3-0 in round 1 so we will need to be at the top of our game if we are to progress further. We do hope to arrange at least one friendly match before the Lancashire fixture.

I would like to stress that we consider all of those players who have trialled/played for us recently as part of the G.M.C.S.F.A Under 14 squad. Unfortunately we are bound by rules that mean we can only select 16 players for our ESFA cup matches. That does not mean that those who are not selected for a particular game are out of our future plans. Mr Ainsworth, our assistant manager, will continue to text/what’s-app parents of selected players in the run up to matches but from now on squad lists and important updates will also appear on this page and on our twitter pages (@gmcsfau14boys).
It is also important to point out that for future ESFA games there will be a small charge of around £3 for spectators, with reductions for children and O.A.P’s. This money provides an important source of income for our organisation and goes towards venue hire, kit laundry and replenishment, the hiring of match officials and post match refreshments. Thank you for your understanding with this and sincere apologies for not making it clear in advance of the Staffordshire game.
Thanks for your continued support.
