Dear Parents and Carers,

Appointment of new Headteacher of Canon Slade School

I’m delighted to be able to announce that yesterday evening the Governing Board appointed Mrs Karen Sudworth as the next Headteacher of Canon Slade school.

Governors went out to a national field for our Headteacher vacancy. We attracted a strong field and we are confident that Mrs Sudworth is the right choice to guide our school into the future, within the framework of our strong Christian Foundation.

I realise that this academic year has been a cause of concern for many of you, with Mr Burton’s absence through injury in the Autumn term and then his resignation at Easter. Our senior leaders have made sure we continue to deliver the very best education that your children deserve, but the Governing Board believe that Mrs Sudworth’s appointment will bring with it the stability we all want, to allow us to take our school to the next level.

Mrs Sudworth has been involved in the education of young people in Salford, St Helens and Cheshire East for over thirty years and has been a senior leader for over 14 of them. She is a committed and practising Christian and is a full and active member of Christ Church, Walmsley in Bolton. She is also a Foundation governor of an outstanding C of E primary school that sends many pupils to Canon Slade.

Mrs Sudworth already knows the school very well, and she has also been in your shoes as both her sons have been students of Canon Slade School.

At this point we’re not sure when Mrs Sudworth will be able to take up her post at Canon Slade but we are keen, as she is, to have her in post at the earliest opportunity.

Karen was delighted to accept the position and is very much looking forward to joining the Canon Slade family in the near future, working with our staff and the wider Bishop Fraser Trust to improve the life chances of our young people.
